My approach to family photography work is to capture your memories in an image. I want you to be able to look back on these photos in the years to come and clearly remember that slice in time of your life; to remember the personality of your children and family, their favorite activity or toy or how they loved to wear their rainboots indoors. This is why I do my family photo sessions in your home where everyone is relaxed and comfortable and their unique self.
The home setting frees you and your children from any anxiety associated with an unfamiliar photography studio; it keeps them more relaxed and more likely to exhibit their personality, and, if they get hungry or grumpy, it is much easier to attend to their needs when they are in familiar surroundings.
What I have shown in the galleries on this site is a sampling of some of my favorite photos from different sessions. With my client's permission, I have posted full photo sessions here where you can get an idea of what a full session looks like.

You know your family best, and I want to be sure to come when everyone is well rested, fed, and ready to be social. After we have decided on a date and time, I will send you a contract as well as a questionnaire. This will help me understand more about you and tailor the session to encourage interaction and giggles!
The photo session will last from one to two hours. This allows sufficient time for changing a diaper, feeding a baby on their schedule, getting everyone used to being photographed, etc., and will also allow for us to go to different places in and around your home. Maybe there is a playground nearby that you go to often, or a pond that your dog likes to jump into; wherever you like to go together is a place we should go. Basically, know that I will stay there until I feel like I have a variety of looks to work with that capture your family's personality.
Rarely do I stage any of my photos. What works best is if you could just let me in and then immediately forget I was there. I want to stay in the background while your family plays and interacts together, only occasionally requesting that you lift up your chin or turn a little more my way, or maybe suggesting we move to a different location. Beyond that, the best photos come from natural interaction, so I just keep back on the periphery, witnessing and photographing.
The photos from your session will be available to view and order within two weeks.
All of your photos will be posted in an online gallery for you to review. Through this website, you can order prints from a high quality, professional lab that I work with and trust. They offer a variety of prints, products (magnets, prints on canvas, stickers, etc.), and digital files whose color and quality is what you would expect from any professional lab. Prints typically arrive between 5-10 business days after you order them through the site, unless you choose expedited shipping.
