Patrick RogersI have been a very visual person since a young age, starting with my Kodak disc camera when I was around 12, and continuing on from there. Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, I had a lot of fun photographing my friends and the woods near my parents' house. It was a great hobby, and I never really considered it more than that. After high school I found work at a local camera shop chain.  I loved that job as it surrounded me with both creative and technical people who loved photography, and I got a great education and accessibility to some great equipment while I was at it!
When I moved to Olympia, Washington to attend The Evergreen State College, I had a plan to get a degree in English or Sociology. Both are great subject areas, however, the first class I took allowed me to use photography in my final project, and I jumped at the chance. By now, the signs were hard to ignore, so I changed majors, dove headfirst into the photographic world and never looked back.

My first official job as a photographer was working with a wedding photographer in Olympia for two seasons, and I loved it! Clearly, I had made the right choice. And then, with my BA in Photography in hand, I headed out to work at The Art Institute of Chicago as a scanner and digital photographer to digitize thousands of lantern slides for the Plan Of Chicago collection. What a great way to see the city of Chicago being built from the ground up while at work! Though I loved Chicago, I left for the adventure of a lifetime to hike the entire Appalachian Trail. I knew that life on the Trail couldn't last forever so next I headed East to work at Yale’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library where I photographed some of their amazing collection like the Guttenberg Bible and letters from Abraham Lincoln. Next on my tour of the libraries/museums of some of the highest regarded universities, I moved to Boston to work at Harvard’s Widener Library.

Recently, I decided to make another move, though less geographic than before. After years of working in museums, I realized how much I missed photographing people. The energy of a couple in love, a wedding, the happiness and compassion exhibited by parents playing with their children—THAT’S what I really enjoy capturing in my photos. Thanks to the support and encouragement of my wonderful wife, I made the leap and started this wedding/family photography business, and I couldn’t be happier. Every photo shoot is an opportunity to share in the joy and love between people, and doing my best to capture all those emotions is such a wonderful and fulfilling challenge!!
